As the landlord of a rental property, you have certain obligations that you must fulfil. One of the major ones is to do with fire safety. This is so important; imagine the consequences if regulations aren’t followed. People could get seriously hurt, or even killed.
As a landlord, it is your obligation to install fire alarms that work, that will cover the entirety of the property. It is the tenants’ responsibility to make sure the fire alarms are working and have batteries in them, but some landlords will remind tenants of their obligations. You should have a fire alarm that is wired in, that can then also be back up with batteries in case it fails.
You also need to make sure there are adequate fire escape routes from your property, especially if it is in a block of flats. You may also be obligated to provide fire doors and blankets, depending on the type and size of the property.
